The Money Factor In Poll Race

This is a monitoring report of the 2007 General Elections. It brings the understanding; and evaluates the problem of corruption related to campaign finance in Kenya. The findings in the book sought to contribute to an environment in which corruption is less likely to occur after establishing that there was no legal and institutional framework that governs campaign income and expenditure in Kenya. Which in-turn, opens up opportunities for corruption in campaign financing. It reveals that running for public office involves prohibitive expenses and is disadvantageous to the poor segments of society like youth and women. The publication concludes that corruption related to finance in 2007 General Election occurred because of lack of an enforceable legal and regulatory framework to promote transparency.

Economic Governance Of Coffee Sector (Focusing Central Province)

The story of how coffee growing and drinking spread around the world is one of the greatest and most romantic in history. It starts in the Horn of Africa, in Ethiopia, the country bordering Kenya in the Northern Frontier, where the coffee tree probably originated in the province of Kaffa. There are various fanciful but unlikely stories surrounding the discovery of the properties of roasted coffee beans. One story has it that an Ethiopian goat herder was amazed at the lively behavior of his goats after chewing red coffee berries. What we know with more certainty is that the succulent outer cherry flesh was eaten by slaves taken from present day Sudan into Yemen and Arabia, through the great port of its day, Mocha, now synonymous with coffee. Coffee was certainly being cultivated in Yemen by the 15th century and probably much earlier than that.
